What's the motto? UW-Whitewater football is built on tradition. A hugely popular tradition over the past two decades has been Mike "Cannon Man" Lesko, after every Warhawk score, to fire his Civil War replica cannon from his south end zone location at Perkins Stadium.
Each game, students and other youngsters are allowed into the end zone to "help" Lesko fire the cannon following a UW-Whitewater score.
Big time celebrities have even gotten into the act.
Kevin Bacon fired off a shot to celebrate a UWW touchdown in 1995. Daniel Travanto from the 1980's television drama Hill Street Blues" lit the cannon one game in the late 1980's.
Last season, senior defensive end Mykaell Bratchett said he definitely felt a boost every time the cannon was fired.
"It really adds to the atmosphere here at the "Perk," Bratchett said. "The fans wild after hearing the cannon explode. It really adds to the Warhawks' home field advantage,"
