Warhawk offensive coordinator Craig Smith oversees his unit at today's practice |
The UW-Whitewater football team's 2015 training camp roster stands at 138 as the preseason's first on-field practice took place this afternoon.
Many NCAA III programs boast rosters approaching 200 whoever UW-Whitewater has stayed steady between 135 and 140 on its preseason roster.
The Warhawks and other WIAC teams used to have larger rosters however the conference's 100 player regular season roster limit has had an impact on the number of recruits brought in each season.
This afternoon's first practice of the preseason was held at the North practice field complex. The majority of the remaining practices will take place inside Perkins Stadium.
The one thing that jumped out at me this afternoon was the energy at practice. UW-Whitewater's new coaching staff ran a rapid pace 24 segment practice. The high energy level of both the coaching staff and players was quite apparent.
I was standing adjacent to new Warhawk offensive coordinator Craig Smith for much of this afternoon's practice. Coach Smith's high energy level was contagious as he "coached up" his quarterbacks and offensive unit.
